Autotalks, the leader in V2X communication chipsets, announced today that it will unveil its V2X solution for autonomous driving at ITS America. V2X Communication adds a new layer of confidence and certainty to self-driving vehicles. It complements the information of other sensors, especially in situations of non-line-of-sight, rough weather or poor lighting conditions. Autotalks V2X solution can streamline autonomous operations under challenging conditions and in various uncertain driving situations for a safer journey.
Autonomous vehicles rely on accurate mapping for navigation. V2X communication enables autonomous vehicle map usage by improving positioning information when GPS is unavailable, such as in urban canyons. In addition, V2X allows the vehicle to better understand the intentions of surrounding vehicles and to receive guidance from infrastructure. V2X communication enables traffic coordination, resulting in higher road utilization and lower emissions. Autonomous vehicles are expected to be always connected, with V2I adding supplementary cloud access.
Functional safety certification is required for reliable operation in case of brake actuation. Such decisions must be taken in real-time, hence the requirement for low and deterministic latency of V2X security operations. Lastly, an embedded Hardware Security Module (eHSM) addresses the higher trust requirements of autonomous driving.
